Broadlands Hall School October 2024 Newsletter
Dear Parents, Guardians and Carers,
After what has been a busy and rewarding first five weeks of term, I am very pleased to share with you the fantastic progress our pupils have made over this time, both in and out of the classroom. It has been a rewarding period of development, full of social, emotional, and academic growth, and we couldn’t be prouder of how our pupils have been thriving. We have already made adaptations to the curriculum from Explorers to Voyagers so that our boys get the very best opportunities, and we will continue to reflect and develop as we move forward.
Social and Emotional Progress
Our focus on fostering a supportive and inclusive school environment is truly paying off. Pupils are engaging positively with one another, showing increased empathy, teamwork, and emotional resilience. Our staff have noted a rise in pupils’ confidence and their willingness to take on new challenges, both in and outside of lessons. Their commitment to developing meaningful relationships with peers has been truly heartening.
Academic Achievement
In the classroom, our pupils have been showing remarkable progress in their learning. With the support of their teachers, they’ve been tackling challenging concepts with enthusiasm, and the improvement in their understanding has been evident in their recent work. Whether it’s mastering new maths problems, engaging in thoughtful discussions in English, or making exciting discoveries in science, they consistently show curiosity and dedication.
Extra-Curricular Highlights
The past month has also been filled with exciting extra-curricular opportunities that have enriched the pupils’ learning experiences:
Pizza Making at Prezzo: Our pupils had a fantastic time getting creative in the restaurant, learning the art of pizza-making at Prezzo. It was a delicious and educational hands-on activity that everyone thoroughly enjoyed! We are very grateful to Charlene, the General Manager at Prezzo who has very kindly offered all of the Broadlands community a special offer. If you would like to take advantage of this offer, quote “Broadlands Hall School Newsletter” for 30% off your food bill any time up until 30th November 2024.
Cycling around Grafham Water was a fun-filled, active day where pupils cycled through beautiful scenery, building not only their fitness but also their sense of adventure and teamwork. We will continue to challenge them in this area as we increased the distance around Rutland Water soon.
A Day at Pleasurewood Hills: Pupils had a thrilling day out at Pleasurewood Hills last Saturday, enjoying rides and attractions while creating lasting memories with their friends.
WOW Day – Today we celebrate All Things ’80s: Our WOW day will, we hope, be a big hit! As I write, they are having a blast diving into the vibrant 1980s culture, exploring the music, technology, food, and craft of the decade. It certainly is a colourful and nostalgic journey for everyone, full of creativity and discovery. Many thanks to all the staff that have gone the extra mile to create an amazing day (Photos of the outfits to follow!)
Upcoming Events: First Camp-Out of the Year
We are eagerly looking forward to tonight’s camp-out, where the boys will have the chance to enjoy a night under the stars. They’ll be cooking their own meals, playing games, telling stories around the campfire, and soaking in the fresh air and enjoying the outdoors. It promises to be an unforgettable experience, full of camaraderie and adventure.
We enjoyed our Harvest Festival assembly on Wednesday where the boys were told all about the culture of the festival and the similar festivals around the world. We are collecting hampers for the Haverhill Food Bank; if you (and the boys) can donate a hamper (shoe box or similar) of non-perishable food, toiletries, pet food etc, we will be collecting until Friday 10th October. There will be a prize for the pupil with the most impressive hamper with the Pupil Council representatives donating them the following week.
Finally, on the subject of Pupil Council, congratulations to all those who have been appointed to the council for the year ahead:
